Skiing in Sestriere
Ski and snowboard.The complete guide.
Want to ski or snowboard in Sestriere? You’re on 400 km of slopes on the Via Lattea, between Italy and France, for every level. Here’s everything: what the ski area is like, who it suits, how to choose the right school, which lessons and experiences to do, when to come and how much it costs.
What the Via Lattea is
Skiing or snowboarding in Sestriere means stepping onto the Via Lattea: around 400 km of slopes straddling the border between Italy and France, linking Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana and Montgenèvre. One big single ski area, with a ski pass that takes you from one side to the other in the same day.
The real richness isn't just the mileage: it's the variety. Gentle slopes to start on, walls for those after a challenge, and all the off-piste that begins where the groomed snow ends. That's why in Sestriere there's a run for every level.
Suited to every level
- I.Children and beginners: easy slopes and ski and snowboard instructors who start from the fundamentals. The seasonal Crew courses look after the little ones all winter.
- II.Those who want to improve: private lessons to work on technique, carving and style.
- III.Expert skiers and riders: freeride, splitboard and tours beyond the pistes, where you need to read the mountain.
How to choose a school
A school is worth as much as its teaching. The thing to look at isn't the discount: it's who guarantees the quality of what you learn.
In Sestriere, Preskige is a ski and snowboard school where the instructors are trained and supervised by four FISI National Instructors — the highest qualification — and where, uniquely on the Via Lattea, two World Cup athletes also teach, Francesca and Matteo Marsaglia. That means a high standard, from the first steps to the perfect turn.
Then choose based on what you need: a private lesson to progress fast, a group course to socialise, a seasonal course for the children, or an experience off the beaten track. You'll find them below.
