The Milky Way
Tour

The whole Via Lattea,in a single day.

400 km of slopes, six resorts linked across Italy and France, and an instructor who guides you from one to the next. Ski or snowboard — made for anyone who doesn't know the Via Lattea and wants to see all of it.

01 Via Lattea
400 km of slopes, six resorts straddling the border. One of the largest ski areas in the Alps, to ride all in one day.
02 With an instructor
It's not a lesson: it's a tour. The instructor knows every link and picks the route to suit you — you just ski.
03 Ski or snowboard
Whichever you prefer. The tour can be done on skis or on a snowboard: the mountain is the same, only the instructor changes.
04 We pick you up
Start from where you're staying. On the full day we meet you in Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx or Sansicario and set off from there.
What the Milky Way Tour is
It's not a lesson. It's the day you discover the Via Lattea!

The Via Lattea from above: from here you see just how big it is.

The Milky Way Tour is a day — or half a day — to really ride it: not just the slopes near home, but the whole ski area, end to end, with an instructor who knows it well.

It's not a lesson and it's not off-piste: it's a tour on the slopes. You move from one resort to the next, cross the border into France and come back. The instructor picks the right links, keeps you clear of the queues and sets the route to your level — you just ski.

It's made for anyone who doesn't know the Via Lattea: tourists, families and groups of friends who come to Sestriere and want to see all of it, with someone up front who knows where to go.

Where you go

400 kmstraddling the border

The Via Lattea links six resorts across Piedmont and France — Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Clavière and Montgenèvre — all on the same ski pass. On your own it's easy to miss a link or keep riding the same slopes; with an instructor up front, you won't.

How a day goes

From the meeting pointto the last run

Here's what a full day is like, hour by hour. The half day is this same morning, ending at 1pm.

8:45

We pick you up

On the full day we meet you where you're staying — in Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx or Sansicario — so you start from the doorstep. A quick check of your skis or board and your ski pass, and off we go.

Full day only
9:00

The first runs

We start on the slopes to warm up. It helps me too: by watching how you ski I get the group's pace and decide the right route for the day — more direct or more relaxed.

Morning

Moving from one resort to the next

One link after another: from Sestriere towards Sansicario and Sauze d'Oulx, taking the right slopes and skipping the queues. This is where you see the difference between going on your own and having a guide.

Up the mountain, unhurried

You cross the border and reach Montgenèvre: the furthest point of the tour. From there you make your way back to the start, following the best snow.

We finish in time for the last lifts. If you chose the Full version, instead of skiing back you end at Montgenèvre and a private transfer takes you home.

The day decides the route. Snow, weather, queues and the group's legs change the ride: the above is the typical programme, not a fixed rule. In the morning, over coffee, we decide together.

Who it's for

You don't need to be good. You need to be able to ski

The Milky Way Tour is a day of kilometres: it's not a beginners' week, but it's not a race either. The requirement is simple — getting down blue and red slopes on your own. The rest of the ride we adapt to you.

01

The requirement

You can get down and stop on your own on a blue, and you manage on a red. You don't need to be an expert: you just need to be able to ski for a few hours without tiring too much. The more fluent you are, the more area we cover.

Blue–red slopes
02

Who it's made for

Families and groups of friends who know each other. Couples. Anyone coming to Sestriere to a hotel or chalet who wants to experience the mountain, not take a lesson. The price is for the group: the more of you there are, the less each of you pays.

Families and groups
03

Those who don't know the area

That's the point of the tour: tourists discovering the Via Lattea for the first time who want someone up front who knows where to go. No queues in the wrong place, no missed link, no hours spent studying the map.

Tourists · first time

And children? Yes, if they can get down blue and red slopes on their own — roughly from age 6 up. It is a family product: what matters is that the whole group keeps the same pace, so no one is left behind.

You can add

The tourextras

Board of cured meats and cheeses typical of the area, served in a mountain refuge
Modern wood-and-glass mountain hut above Sauze d'Oulx, on the slopes of the Via Lattea
The gourmet break

Skiing, good wine and local produce

Mid-morning, instead of the usual coffee: a board of Piedmontese cured meats and cheeses and a glass of local wine, in a mountain hut — like the one in Sauze d'Oulx beside here. The way to pair a day on the skis with a taste for the territory. We book it; it is added to the tour price.

Lunch at a refuge

Lunch up the mountain with a dedicated menu, booked by us. You take off your skis, eat unhurried and set off again. The moment that turns a ride into a day out.

Photographer

A photographer who follows the day. The tracks in the snow are wiped out by the first snowfall; the photos of your tour stay.

The Full version

You end the day at Montgenèvre without skiing back: a private transfer takes you to the start point. The complete tour, with no worry about the return.

The extras are added to the tour price and arranged when you book: tell me what you are interested in and I will set it all up — hut, refuge, transfer or photographer. The pick-up where you are staying, on the other hand, is already included in the full day.

Questions

What peoplealways ask us

No, but a minimum is needed. The tour is a day of kilometres, so you need to get down blue slopes on your own and manage on the reds. It is not for anyone in their first week. Those who ski fluently cover more area; those who take it easy discover it calmly — the ride adapts to the group.

Both. The tour is identical, only the instructor changes: skiers go with a ski instructor, snowboarders with a snowboard instructor. A mixed group, ski and snowboard together, is possible — but it needs one instructor per discipline: tell me when you book and I will arrange it.

With the half day (9am–1pm) you ride the part near Sestriere: Sestriere, Sansicario and Sauze d'Oulx. From Sestriere, in half a day, you don't reach Montgenèvre.

With the full day (9am–5pm) you do the complete tour: you reach Montgenèvre, in France, and come back, with lunch up the mountain in between.

Yes, and it is included in the full day. We pick you up where you are staying, anywhere in the Via Lattea: the morning start is from Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx or Sansicario. So you begin from the doorstep, with no wasted trips. On the half day, instead, we meet at the meeting point.

It really is a family product. Children can come if they get down blues and reds on their own — roughly from age 6 up. The only thing that matters is that the whole group keeps the same pace: that way it is a great day for everyone and no one is left behind.

The price is a flat rate for the group, 3 to 6 people at the same level: the more of you there are, the less each of you pays. If you are 1 or 2, the hourly private lesson rate applies instead — you can work it out in the official price list. Either way, message me and I will give you the exact figure.

No, the Via Lattea ski pass is bought separately, and it is essential: the lifts are what take you from one resort to the next, so there is no tour without it. The tour price covers the instructor for the whole group. If you need equipment hire, tell me when you book.

Yes: on the full day you reach Montgenèvre, which is in France. It is all linked on skis, but bring an ID — for you and for the whole group, children included.

Yes. We often guide international guests, so the tour can easily be run in English. We can run the whole tour in English — just let us know when you book.
